We have plenty of deer and coyotes here, but, rarely a bear, very rarely,
although, when I first moved to NC in 2002, shortly thereafter there was one in
our little town.

Subject: Using Seeing AI to add descriptions to a short video

Hi,

I tried this once before but can’t remember where the video came from, in any
case, after a significant time processing the video, I was informed that the
format was not compatible.

The other night just before 3 AM and when I happened to be awake for a short
time, I heard a notification from our Ring video doorbell that there was
“Motion at the front door”.

I listened and heard some small noises, at one point a notification actually
said “Person detected at the front door”.

So I thought I try this one more time, I downloaded one of the video clips to
my Photos library, then I opened it and tapped on “Share”, I then selected
“Recognize with Seeing AI”.

Once again the processing took some time, I didn’t time it, but I’d say a
minute, maybe a bit less. To my delight after it was done I received a play by
play description of what was going on.

Of course Ring was wrong with respect to a person, but I noticed in the past
that it sometimes says this when my dog is in the backyard where we have a Ring
Stickup cam so apparently Ring is not yet using AI to get much better
recognition of objects, people and animals. I assume this is possibly simply a
matter of logistics because AI uses a lot of electricity and given the volume
of Millions and probably tens of Millions of Ring videos I understand how that
may not really be possible.

In any case, Seeing AI correctly identified our night time visitors as a couple
of deer, we live in a small town in Northwestern BC and having wildlife in town
is not unusual here. In the fall, September and October, we often have black
bears in town looking for food to fatten up before they hibernate, mule deer
and white tailed deer are all over town throughout the winter and the other
morning as my wife and I were having breakfast next to our picture window
facing the street, a moose and her calf were walking down the middle of the
street.

I made a recording of the audio description and have included a Dropbox link
for those who are interested to hear it, but I did ask one of my sighted
employees and he said it was pretty much right on target. I did not change the
0 at the end of the link to a 1 so the file downloads, the link as it is should
either start playing the recording or if not you may have to look for a “play”
button when your browser opens:

Best regards,

Sieghard
