I had the same thing happened to me a few hours ago, but that was only remedied by going into the settings and going to power under generaland shutting off the device and then I restarted the device manually. After that, I tested it out and it works fine.

I was on the phone with Apple Accessibility for well over an hour with my issue. After getting all my settings checked, my issue was upgraded to Engineering and the rep directed me to upload some logs to Apple that she directed me to create. During the process of doing this, hey Siri started working but the side button no longer summoned Siri. Now, everything is working. I'll convey this to Apple when I hear back from them Thursday afternoon.

I never run beta software on my iPhone so making that comment about iOS 26 was inappropriate and sorry for the confusion. I know others have had issues with Bluetooth and other items with their iPhone 16e's and I guess it was my turn. I find it more than a little disconcerting that devices which are functioning perfectly well for a period of time manifest problems such as I experienced today without the user making any setting changes.

Many thanks for the comments.

Alan,

You say you are running iOS 18.5, but that you suspect the issue with Siri relates to the iOS 26 Beta. So, did you upgrade to the iOS 26 Beta or are you still on iOS 18.5, to me this is not clear. If you are still using iOS 18.5, then I don’t see why iOS 26 Beta should have any effect on you and Siri performance.

In any case, I have been running the iOS Beta since Developer Beta 1 and Siri works fine for me including Hey Siri and asking it to call people in my contacts.

I simply assume Siri is glitching for you because of some other reason, from time to time I remember people asking about similar issues with Siri or the App Store and then a few seem to always confirm there are issues with most saying there are not. Both of these services are connected to the performance and health of apple servers and it seems that if said servers are sometimes having an off day or an off couple of days that this does not effect everybody.

I actually think Barbara’s suggestion to turn off Hey Siri and actually to go as far as to delete your history with Siri might be a good idea, after you do retrain Hey Siri and see how it goes.

By the way, liquid glass should have even less of an effect on Siri since as far as I can tell it has absolutely nothing at all to do with it as it’s simply a term to describe a new way Apple displays visual information from icons to emojis to toolbars and so on.

And again, as for iOS 26, we are now on Developer Beta 4 and it’s very stable and except for my long-standing issue which I also had maybe to a little bit of a lesser degree in iOS 18, everything seems to work extremely well and one thing I can tell you is that as a Voiceover user you would never notice liquid glass because it has 0 relevance for Voiceover users. In fact, while Apple calls iOS 26 the biggest upgrade for a long time, I find very little changed except for some of the new features like the new layout of the phone app which by the way you can not use if you prefer the classic layout. Yes, of course there are some more features, but so far I have certainly not had any “Wow” moments with iOS 26. What I love a lot more and which has nothing to do with iOS 26 is that via the Link kto Windows app and the PhoneLink feature/app in Windows 11, it is now super easy to transfer pictures and other files to your PC simply by selecting Link to Windows in the share sheet and selecting the PC you have set up, in my case I set up my laptop and my office PC. The transfer is relatively quick and by default whatever files you send this way are saved in a folder called PhoneLink in your Downloads folder, but you can change this if you want. It is almost like Airdrop, it’s easy and it works and you don’t have to use Dropbox or OneDrive if you quickly want to send a few pictures or a PDF to your Windows 11 computer.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Subject: Siri no longer answers to Hey Siri and seems nonfunctional when summoned with the side button

Hi List,

I’m running iOS 18.5 on an iPhone 16e. I have made no changes to any of my settings. I’m confused why my iPhone seems nonfunctional with Siri and suspect it relates to the iOS 26 beta and Apple tweaking something with Siri in connection with that. I would love to get some comments about what others are experiencing and apologies if this has already been addressed but I’ve been traveling the past week and not paying much attention to email. I’ll provide my experience with this latest Siri below.

When I say Hey Siri now, I get no response whatsoever even though I’ve made no changes in my settings and this worked perfectly fine a few days ago. When I press the side power button to summon Siri and ask her to call the home number of someone in my contacts who I’ve called numerous times, Siri comes back with a no match found or attempts to call someone totally unrelated to what I’ve spoken.

If this is the sort of result that switching to iOS 26 and its whole “liquid glass” regime is going to bring us, I’m not optimistic about the upcoming accessibility of iOS. I would welcome comments of others with respect to recent Siri behavior especially regarding summoning it with Hey Siri as well as its performance before I call Apple Accessibility and inquire about what I’m experiencing. And yes, I have restarted my iPhone a couple of times since experiencing this.

Thanks in advance for your comments.
