I have found the user manual for the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom speakers on
Amazon, so just ignore my request, Sieghard.

Thank you for all this, Sieghard.
As Amazon had a really good deal, I ordered two so I could have stereo sound
and my husband paired them with my iPhone, although initially we couldn't see
how to get the iPhone to recognise both speakers.
I'm really impressed with the sound and the size.
We then went on to pairing them with my Milestone, which was a much bigger
challenge.
My husband can turn his hand to anything, but would never make a teacher as he
has so little patience. So, I'm wondering, is there a manual online I could
learn from?

Hello Alison,

I am not entirely sure what you mean by "When I am using Bluetooth headphones,
it is the device which stops and starts the sessions, not the Bluetooth
headphones".
If you mean start/play and stop/pause, then most Bluetooth headphones and
speakers have buttons who can do this. For example, if you are playing music or
a book on Audible and you want to pause playback, you don't have to get your
iPhone and double tap the Pause button, you can just press the correct button
on your Bluetooth headphones or Bluetooth speaker just like you can press the
middle part of the inline remote on a pair of wired Earpods.
So, once again, on the Wonderboom, the large middle button which is flush and
just a round rubbery surface, that button is Play/Pause. You may have to start
playback on your device, but once something is playing, you can press that
middle button to stop/pause playback and you can press it again to resume
playing.
The button with the raised dot which is also nearest to the rubber loop to
which you could attach a lanyard or carabiner to hang the Wonderboom on a hook
or around your neck, is the Bluetooth pairing button. When you first get your
Wonderboom, power it on with the other smaller round button across from the
rubber loop (the one without the raised bump), then make sure you open Settings
> Bluetooth on your iPhone and then press and hold the button with the bump for
a moment until the Wonderboom plays a sound. It's hard to describe, but it's
like a fairly loud 3-tone sound which repeats until you double tap on the
Wonderboom entry at the bottom of your Bluetooth device list and pairing
completes.
You most likely won't need the pairing button again or at least not a lot, mine
rarely does not work, but if it does not automatically connect when you turn it
on, you could always go to Bluetooth settings, swipe down or up on Wonderboom
and double tap on More Info and then Forget Device, then press that button
again to re-pair it.
Also, don't forget that by default Voiceover will most likely be on the
Wonderboom, if you prefer to keep Voiceover on the iPhone and only have music
or audio books play on the Wonderboom, swipe down on it in Bluetooth Settings,
double tap More Info, then double tap Device Type and select "Speaker", this
will cause Voiceover to play on your iPhone and only music and other stuff will
play on the speaker. If you want to change it back, select "headphones" as the
device type and both Voiceover and other media will come from the speaker.
Finally, I forgot to mention this and I hope you realized it, these are just a
speaker, they are not a "speakerphone", i.e. they don't have a microphone which
would allow you to also use them to accept a phone call.

Having seen your recommendation and read Amazon's review I am eagerly awaiting
the arrival of these speakers.
Just one query. You say there are three buttons, one for pairing, one to power
off but also and on/off button in the middle.
When would you use this mioddle button? When I am using blue tooth headphones,
it is the device which stops and starts the sessions, not the blue tooth
headphones.

More the size of a mug, I think the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom speakers are
fantastic, the current model is the Wonderboom 4. It looks like a little
barrel, but as I said, about the diameter and height of a coffee mug.
It has a rubber loop at the top where you have 3 buttons, one with a raised dot
is the Bluetooth paring button, a large flat button in the middle is play/pause
and a flat smaller button across from the Bluetooth paring button is the power
on/off. On the bottom is also another flush button which is the base boost.
It is fabric covered, but extremely tough and IP67 waterproof, definition is
"can be submersed under 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes and it is dust proof".
In more realistic terms it means you can take it with you in the shower and
even throw it in the pool, in fact, it is designed to float and I also dropped
mine many time and it just bounces a bit and otherwise it is no worse for it.
And of course it's available on Amazon, Best Buy, probably Walmart and in the
US I would assume Target and other major electronics and department stores.
If you buy 2 of them they can be set up as a stereo pair and you can daisy
chain even more of them using the Ultimate Ears app, the family goes from the
Wonderboom which is the smallest to the Hyperboom which is the largest and in
between are the Boom, Megaboom, Everboom and the Big Boom.
You can actually group any of them together for a party of similar, e.g. if
you had a Wonderboom, a Megaboom and a Hyperboom, they can all be grouped
together to play the same thing.
Another outstanding feature is the long Bluetooth range, Wonderboom is 40
meters (130 feet), Boom and Megaboom have a range of 45 metres, Everboom and
Big Boom 55 metres and Hyperboom is 65 metres (200 feet).
Battery life ranges from 14 hours for the Wonderboom all the way to 24 hours
for the Hyperboom.
If you Google Ultimate Ears Wonderboom, you'll find many links to places to buy
as well as reviews.

Obviously there are many other options, JBL also makes some pretty good dand
popular ones as does Bose and there is the Beats Pill and Anker also has many
options in their SoundCore line which are typically less expensive.
Right now the Wonderboom seems to be on sale again, here in Canada it usually
is $139.99 and it's currently on sale for $99.99 Canadian, I assume it would be
regular $99 US and on sale maybe for $79.

Hi everyone, I have a bit of a different question. What are some of your
favorite small speakers for your eye devices? I remember I saw one a few years
ago, and I’m kicking myself I didn’t buy it. It looked like a small coffee or
tea cup. It had a silicone handle.

If you could offer up some of your favorites that you like and work well with
voiceover, I’d appreciate it.

Thank you,
Traci
