i've been finding this quite frustrating for a long time now, I have just tried a new technique this morning and it seems to work and it is thus: when you unlock your phone and it says you have six notifications, put your finger directly at the bottom where you might tear something like torch or camera, flick back and if you read the different notifications from the bottom up your screen seems to stay unlocked. Give it a try, I could go into notifications of course, but I like the quickness of having them read while I'm still on the lock screen.
