I suspected that the built in reminders might be a good option so I asked
ChatGPT and here is its response, always check answers for accuracy.
You’re looking for scheduled, persistent movement reminders on iOS —
essentially a configurable “nag” system tied to specific times of day. Below
are the most reliable options, depending on how structured you want this to be.
________________________________________
1️⃣ Apple Reminders (Built-in, Simple, Reliable)
Best for: Fixed times each day (e.g., 10:00, 1:00, 3:00).
How to set it up:
Open Reminders
Create a list called “Move”
Add a reminder like “Stand and move for 5 minutes”
Tap the ⓘ
Turn on Date
Choose Repeat → Daily
Set the time
Turn on Priority → High
Enable Remind me when messaging (optional)
Leave it incomplete so it keeps resurfacing
Why it works:
Persistent notifications
Works with Siri (“Remind me every weekday at 2 PM to move”)
No extra app required
Limitation:
One reminder per time slot (you must create multiple if you want several per
day)
________________________________________
2️⃣ Due (Strongest “Nag” Behavior)
Best for: Persistent repeating alerts that keep buzzing until acknowledged.
App: Due – Reminders & Timers
Why it’s powerful:
Auto-snoozes until you mark it done
Extremely persistent (true nagging behavior)
Recurring at specific times
Fast reschedule gestures
Use case:
“Move every 2 hours between 9 AM and 5 PM”
Custom weekday/weekend patterns
If you want something that will not quietly disappear, this is the best option.
________________________________________
3️⃣ Stand Up! The Work Break Timer
Best for: Automatic interval reminders (e.g., every 45 minutes).
App: Stand Up! The Work Break Timer
Features:
Custom intervals
Active hours (e.g., 8–6 only)
Gentle but consistent nudges
Designed specifically for movement
Less manual setup than Reminders.
________________________________________
4️⃣ Apple Watch Activity App (if you use one)
If you wear an Apple Watch:
Built-in Stand Reminders
Prompts you if you haven’t stood during the hour
Automatically adaptive
This is the most seamless option if you’re in the Apple ecosystem.
________________________________________
5️⃣ Shortcuts Automation (Advanced Control)
If you want precision (e.g., only weekdays, only when at home, etc.):
Open Shortcuts
Go to Automation
Create Time of Day automation
Add action → Show Notification
Repeat for desired times
This gives fine-grained control without third-party apps.
________________________________________
Recommendation Based on “Nag” Strength
Need Best Option
Light daily reminders Apple Reminders
Persistent until dismissed Due
Interval-based Stand Up!
Passive health tracking Apple Watch
________________________________________
If you tell me:
How many times per day?
Fixed times vs. intervals?
Weekdays only?
Do you use an Apple Watch?
I can give you a precise configuration.

Subject: looking for an app to nag me!

hello to the list,
As the subject line says, I am looking for a simple app that will just nag me
at predetermined intervals to get up and move! I don't want it to give me
particular exercises or monitor anything, just to nag at me regularly. has
anyone got any suggestions for something like this or perhaps an app that's
more complicated but would have this simple functionality within it? I know I
could probably set time as all that kind of thing but I'm sure I used to have
an act that did this, I would even be open to Alexa joining in on this… Thanks
in advance, Sandy and Mr Z Sent from The dark side of the moon
