Folks have carried netbooks and laptops on trains for years;  why not a 
tablet. A smaller one would  be more convenient I reckon, the Mini would be 
a cheaper compromise, though still doesn't resolve network accessibility 
unless he/one subscribes to one of the wifi services.  BT over here (UK) 
offer this for non-cellular devices.

Why on earth would you think a  device without cellular connectivity
and that has a ten inch screen would be useful as a commuter device?
There is this new thing out; called an iPhone I beleive.
