Hello Paul,

I had to check the new install I did of the Bible app To figure out
what you meant about the "page 1 of 3" thing, since this didn't show
up on the older version of the app I'd previously been running. (I
don't always update apps when they're working well, and frankly I
think the previous version's menu page was more VoiceOver friendly.)

You are on the menu page for this app. What has happened is that the
bottom-most entry on the menu screen has turned into a kind of
advertising banner which cycles between three messages: the first is
meant to inform users that the NIV version is available for offline
download between January 1 through January 21. (It just says "Niw
through January 21"). The second message is about using one of their
reading plans in 2013, and the third is about following them on
Facebook or Twitter. You can't actually download the NIV version by
trying to double tap on that first message, even if you're sighted. I
think they just copied the code. And actually, I find the new menu
screen a nuisance, since when I move back to the menu screen from some
of the selections, such as "Profile", that screen may be unresponsive,
and I'll have to use triple click home to toggle VoiceOver off and
then back on again.

So I advise you to start at the top of this screen and flick right
past the "Reference or keyword" search field, and past "Today", which
gives the verse of the day, to "Bible" and double tap. Then follow
the instructions in the linked AppleVis forum post. You'll be on the
active reading screen of the Bible, probably set to the first verse of
the Book of John in the King James Version, if this is the first time
you opened the app. The button indicating the currently selected
version is in the top right corner, and by default will be set to
"KJV". Double tap that button to get to the "Versions" screen to
select and/or download another version of the Bible. When you select
one of the other versions in the alphabetically ordered list by double
tapping, its entry will get moved up to the top of the screen under
the "Recently Used" category and it will also become your currently
selected version. For some of the entries there will be a "Download"
button when you do a second flick right, indicating there is a version
available for offline download. This "Versions" screen is the place
where you start the actual down load process. When you double tap the
"Done" button in the top left corner you return to reading your Bible
in the selected version. Download versions are for use when you don't
have an Internet connection. Otherwise, the app will use whichever
version you have currently selected through your connection. If you
don't have an Internet connection, the app will try to find your
version selection among your downloaded versions for offline use. And
if it can't find a match, it will use whatever version you have
downloaded, or tell you that you have no versions for offline use.

HTH. There are more details in the linked post.

Cheers,

Esther
