On Verizon my iPhone 5 flashed brightly and made scary noises that woke both my
husband and myself up at 1 something in the morning. It said to check local
media when I checked the notifications. The phone was on Do Not Disturb for
the night.
I have since turned off the amber alert in settings because it was useless to
wake people up and then to tell them to check their local media. They should
have sent details at least if they were going to wake people up. We never did
get back to sleep.
My husband’s flip phone showed the alert but did not make noise at least!!!

Thanks. The newspaper article about the complaints FL got when they did this
the other night said with iphones it was in the menus, with Android you had to
call carrier. I’ll give Verizon a shout, literally.

Hi,

it's in Notifications. also, that stuff is carrier specific, so if the
setting's not there, your carrier doesn't support it.

Can someone tell me where I can find the settings to turn off and on government
alerts? Not sure Amber alerts at 2 a.m. are really going to do me much good.
