Just use horizontal flicks to get out of a field. If the keyboard is in the way of the next field, find and activate the done button to close editing.
The best way to get all your calendar appointments and contacts is either by syncing through iTunes, which has the added benefit of fully backing up your iPad onto your MBP, or syncing everything in iCloud, which you do in settings on the iOS device, and in iTunes on the MBP.
