Hi Traci,

I unfortunately really have to get to work so I don't have time for a long
message. However, one item that has been discussed on here quite a bit is
the Radio Thermostat from www.RadioThermostat.com. It is a WiFi enabled
thermostat which does come with a mostly accessible app. I say mostly
because the programming function is not so great, but just controlling your
thermostat from anywhere in the world where your iPhone is online either via
WiFi or data is perfect. You can see the current temperature, the target
temperature and, if you wish, you can turn up the temperature or turn it
down. If you search the archives for Radio Thermostat or even just
Thermostat you should find a bunch of messages and you can always go to
their website as well. I know some people on the list bought this at Home
Depot for $99.

A few weeks ago somebody posted a message about a new Philipps light bulb
which is sold I think in a set of 3. They are LED and expensive, but nothing
else is needed to control them. You can turn the lights on/off, dim them and
I think even change the colour. I have no idea if the app is accessible,
it's a very new product, but I believe the article mentioned that this is
sold in Apple Stores and I assume if that is so they would also have it on
their online store.

Connected appliances have been shown off at CES fpor at least 3 years now,
but I don't think anything has really come to the market yet. In fact I read
an article last week that Bosch, for example, is at this point actually
stating they are not getting into this because of a lack of a standard. Of
course this doesn't mean others won't come up with proprietary systems.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi all,

Has anyone explored controlling lights & appliances with their iDevices?

At first, I went searching for the old-fashion plug-in light timers, but
then I got curious about this.

If anyone has direct experience with apps/products, please share your
findings here.

Thank you,

Traci
