I agree. *end of message*. Just kidding. Seriously though, I think regardless of whether the list is set to reply to list or to sender, the same questions will be asked over and over. This is just the nature of the beast. Also, most people seem to want to ask a question and wait for several responses, some of which will be incorrect, instead of using the list archives. it's a sad truth, but there it is. Call me cynical.

Hello, the only problem with replies going only to the sender the rest of us
will miss a lot of good information and have to ask the same questions again. I
do agree replies going to sender would cut down list traffic, but I don't think

Hi, I completely agree with you, and yes it is possible to make this change.
However since we get many newbies to the list, it's been configured by default
for replies to go to the list. If it was up to me though, I'd switch it in a
heartbeat. It's easier to consciously reply to the list, instead of consciously
reply to the sender and so the end result would be less traffic. However I've
also seen people just do a reply-to-all and continue to send off topic messages
anyway. So, even this isn't a full proof solution.

Is it possible with Google groups for the replies to go directly to the
original sender? I know this can be done with Yahoo Groups. This might
cut down on a lot of those type mails coming to the list. Just a
suggestion.

Subject: thank you, thank you, I agree, yes, no

Hello all. It's about that time again to remind people that thank you
messages sent to the list are considered off topic. This is because if
you want to show your gratitude to the person who gave you the answer to
life, the universe, and everything, it's best sent to that person
directly rather than to the entire list. If there are 1400 members on
list, and you are one of them, that leaves 1399 members. If you are
sending a thank you message for 1 or 2 people, then over 1300 members
are getting blasted with this kind of message and it just adds to the
already high traffic on list. Yes, I agree that saying thank you is a
form of politeness, and considering some of the messages of late on
whether to tip or not, it's painfully obvious that some list members
still act like children, but still, please send your thank you, I agree
messages, or similarly worded ones, directly to the sender when warranted.

Thank you!
