First of all, double tap and hold on the more numbers button does the same as double tap or split tap. I just set my keyboard to standard and tested this.
When VO says slide, there is a visible slider bar which a sighted person touches and quickly slides the finger along. Double tap works just as well on these controls. If you are talking about an item picker, double tap on the picker to activate it. VO focus usually moves to the activated item, which is displayed near the bottom in the middle of the display. Use a single finger vertical flick to move to the choice you desire. left flick to the done button to deactivate the chooser and select your choice. If you want to quickly go through your email just reading the subject lines and selecting the ones you do not want for deletion, there are two ways for accomplishing this. Double tap edit. place your finger at the first or last message. double tap to select it. single finger horizontal flick (left or right depending on the direction you are moving to move through the messages. Double tap on each message to select it. You can also double tap to deselect a selected message. When finished, find the delete button and double or split tap to activate it. The other way is to set your rotor to actions (it defaults to actions when you open the mail app). As you flick through the messages, use a single finger vertical vertical flick to select delete and double tap to delete the currently selected message. I do all my email on my iPhone and this is how I do it.
