It is not like a TV at all. It is a small box that hooks to your TV. It is very small in size. It allows you to buy and rent movies and TV shows from iTunes, stream free radio stations, stream movies and TV shows from NetFlix and Hulu if you have a subscription, stream videos from YouTube and much more, all through the Apple TV to your TV. Many people are under the impression that it replaces cable TV, but it does not. You can not watch cable channels or local TV channels.

Sieghard.
It is not my eMail, even though your answer made me to do this question to you. I understand that the apple TV is a device, as a regular TV of 27 inches, right? If it is true, the apple TV has voice over installed? so it is friendly for blind people?
Thanks

Hi Fanus,

You can use the Apple TV to stream content from your iTunes library to your
TV and also access content from Netflix (with a subscription and I'm not
sure if Netflix is in SA), you can also watch YouTube videos via the Apple
TV, rent movies and TV shows and play internet radio stations and Podcasts. The Apple TV is also Airplay capable, so you could Airplay from your iPhone
to the Apple TV and the connected TV.

It is not a device which allows you to access regular TV programming,
however, there is talk that at some point you might be able to install apps on it similarly to how you install apps on your iDevice and this would mean
you could probably install apps like maybe from BBC, CNN, Discovery Chanel
and so on. I could see how this could create an entirely new area of apps
similarly to iPad apps which often are different from iPhone apps. But of
course if and when an Apple TV will be capable of this nobody knows.

I think given it's relatively low price tag, the Apple TV is definitely
worthwhile having even just for the convenience of the Airplay feature and
the ease with which you can stream from your iTunes library to your
bigscreen TV. If you have a bunch of DVD's you could invest $50 into Magic
DVD Ripper which allows you to rip your DVD's to your hard drive and add
them to your iTunes library. Instead of having to find a particular DVD and
stick it into the player you could access all your movies via the Apple TV
and now since this most recent iOS update you can use a Bluetooth keyboard
with the Apple TV which means it is a lot easier to type in searches for
looking up something on YouTube etc.

Sieghard
