It does not allow you to select TV channels with it. When the Apple TV is
on, you can't access regular TV cable or local channels.

Previously I did not pay attention to this device but now
we've got a new HD TV with all sorts of connectors. My
question is now whether the purpose of Apple TV is only to
be able to view vidios from one's iDevice or can one use it
as a voiced remote to select TV channels?
