The one thing I'd add to Kevin's excellent summary, is that if you are starting
off with a brand new Apple TV or you've restored to factory defaults, you can
enable your Bluetooth keyboard right from the initial set-up process. Once you
triple tap the bottom right key on your remote and reach the language selection
screen, VoiceOver now says "if you wish to use a Bluetooth keyboard, turn it on
now". You're then asked to enter a pairing code. This is excellent because it
means you have a keyboard right from the start, when you're entering your wifi
key, Apple ID etc as you set up.
