Lauren, It is a combination of a database algorithm and crowdsourcing. The image does not always go to a human for identification. We have a complex technology behind TapTapSee.
I actually work for the company that developed TapTapSee. As you mentioned, TapTapSee's new update does in fact have an automated flash in case the picture is taken in a dark place. It also has a repeat button.
