I think it works better sense the update. In general though, the smaller the
item, the harder it is to get a good shot and for some things it just might
take 8 or 9 shots. For example, I have a can of Hormel chili with beans and
another with out beans. It did correctly identify both cans correctly but it
took 9 shots. I had my sighted son watch me but to shut up about what he saw
until I had finished. He said most of the 9 shots were because you had the
camera very slightly off target and it said can of Hormel chili. When you had
the picture and the camera lined dead on, is when it nailed it so it wasn't the
apps fault but rather slight alignments between your lining up the picture on
the can correctly and the left to right angle of the camera. I placed the
bottom of my iPhone on the counter top in the kitchen with the light from the
kitchen shining on the items and the iPhone facing the can so that the vertical
alignment was good and I tried my best to make sure the left and right
alignment was as good as I could get it by feel.

Well, I got two correct results out of about 7 that I tried today, then I
unloaded it for now, it is all the time I have to play. As I said in an
earlier message my cocktail sauce was reported as a classic coke, my green
polo shirt was reported as a black sweater and my can of soup never became
anything but a food can. From some of the results folks had been getting I
was hoping for more but then I have demonstrated more than once that the
camera and I are always having a battle. Both my parents took tons of
pictures and I have tons of them now that they have passed on, I can't see
them, my husband knows none of the people in my childhood but an aunt keeps
insisting I have to have to hundreds of pictures my mother had and my
stepmother insisted I needed all of Dad's earlier pictures that did not
include her. So with that kind of background with a dad who did a lot of
his own developing, a husband who can get very unique pictures and worked in
a darkroom for years can't I get anything particularly useful? Oh, well,
maybe later I will try again, and I have the latest version, it will repeat
as I discovered when I tapped a different portion of the screen quite by
accident, it was a picture I think of the doorway of my kitchen that I did
not intend to take and it did say door.

I never have quite understood the fascination my family had for pictures!

Subject: Information on how TapTapSee works

  Hi all,

I think it is important we keep in mind how this free object recognizer app
works. Its unfortunate that the details are not provided in app store. This
TapTapSee app seems to work by employing a type of crowd sourcing. In other
words, when you take a picture it is actually human beings responding. This
is how it knows it is a dog or man on the picture. This also may explain why
only general descriptions of objects are provided such as "black shoe,"
"$20," "yellow blouse," "Lysol wipes," etc. I'm not certain yet that any
sort of database of known objects is employed as might be the case with bar
  code scanners.

Please try the following for best results:
*use under good lighting conditions. (I believe most current update
automatically turns on flash if it is needed.) *try to take one picture at a
time and give enough time so the person on other side can send back their
description *Try placing eye of camera at center of object or what will be
  the picture to be recognized.
*If too proximal to object then back off and if too distal then bring camera
  a little closer.

*Personal suggestion: try not to get too picture happy and snap pictures of
rocks, sand, or other frivolous objects as those individuals out there
recognizing objects might feel as though they are wasting their time
  describing meaningless things.

Sorry if I insult anyone by changing the subject field its just that I
thought I would change it to accurate reflect the topic of this thread.
