The first radial button is Summary. Tab to the second radial button (I do not remember its title) and press space to check it. Tab to the information area and check sync contacts, then choose Outlook in the combo box. You do the same thing for appointments.
If you want them to sync across iCloud, choose iCloud in this area so iTunes knows to sync contacts and such using iCloud.
