Well I'm not sure what to add to what's already been posted below. That is how it works on the home screen. The real benefit is when you're on a web page or in an app that has quite a few more items on it than your home page. In the example I used, I use it on the TiVo app. I wanted to find the HD broadcast of the superbowl, which I knew would be around channel 700. I didn't want to swipe down through a hundred channels, so I brought up the item chooser. Originally it listed all 200 or so stations, so I double tapped in the search field and started typing "super". Now the search results were just limited to the items that had the word "super" in them. This was only like two or three items, so jumping to the station broadcasting the Super Bowl in HD took less than a dozen gestures instead of over a hundred.
