Yes, you will pay full price up front, but the various services that offer this point out that after about a year, you have reached the break-even point compared to most two-year contracts. Wall Mart offers the same kind of a deal through their Straight Talk service, but I know someone who just spent about 8 to 10 hours over the last two weeks trying to get the data plan to work and only after finally getting through to a person that knew the exact issue was she able to begin taking advantage of the data plan. They apparently haven't documented in their support system how to make it work, so you get to spend lots of hours with people giving you the same answer and leaving it to you to finally complain loudly enough to get to someone who knows something. Not very good customer service.
Cricket also offers an unlimited everything plan. I don't know if they are any better or worse than the others.
