Hello Lisa and Others,

Once you have set up your security question, you might want to make a
record of the answers. I keep this encrypted in the 1Password app,
because while I may remember the answer content, I won't always
remember the exact syntax used and whether I use caps or small
letters. Someone on the mac-access list asked how account settings
could be reset for a client who had forgotten the answers to his
security questions. The answer to this turned out to be quite painful
in some circumstances; I'll point you to information that I found from
a search of the Apple support forums and posted in reply for a
complete answer. If you have set up a "rescue email address", then you
can reset your Apple Security questions by going to the "My Apple ID"
web site and clicking on the "Manage your Apple ID" link to log in at:
https://appleid.apple.com/
If you navigate to the "Password and Security" link option and click
on it, you'll be prompted to answer two of your security questions,
but just after these questions there will also be a line of text:
"Forgot your answers?" followed by a link that will allow you to reset
your security questions by sending an email with instructions to your
rescue email address.

The fun part comes if there is no rescue email and link because you
never set this up. At that point you have to follow the instructions
outlined in my post, which involve calling Apple Support, but
explaining that you do not have a rescue email link under your My
Apple ID page, so they can transfer you to Apple Security. You will
have to answer a number of questions to verify your identity.
Apparently, if you do not have a credit card on file with your
account, you will have to remember at least one of the security
question answers. For more details on this process, see my archived
post from the Mac-Access Mail Archive pages:
• Summary answer on security questions reset for Apple ID [was Re:
Security questions reset.]
http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access%40mac-access.net/msg14638.html

I think it's easier to keep a secure record of the security questions
than to go through this process.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
