Well, as I had AppleCare Plus I was able to successfully exchange my iPhone
4S with the worn out sleep/wake switch for a new one.  Since I'd backed up
to the Cloud everything came back.  That is except for my BookShare books,
but fortunately the BookShare website has a History of the books you've
downloaded so I just re-downloaded them again.
So I guess the lesson is to  have AppleCare plus so that your phone is in
warrenty for the full 2 years.
