How does one get to the settings page? My experience is that that particular
link is not to be found using speech?

Hi there. If you're interested perhaps we can connect on Skype on the
computer, and I can help you walk through this. Perhaps it would help. In
any case, you can write me off list to pursue this further if you're
interested. Also, the Skype ID I use for the computer is raul_gallegos.

Yeah, I have looked around there and once I choose settings, I can't do
much else. I usually have to get sighted assistance. Thanks though, I will
see if I can get that working again.

Go to http://voice.google.com and sign in. Then choose settings. There are
different categories and one of them is calls. You can turn it on or off
from there. The website can be a bit tricky to use if you are not used to
it, I can easily do it using Window Eyes, so I imagine other screen
readers should work if you use another one.

How do I enable it? I had it when I first set up the OBi100, but all that
happens now is that caller's are asked to state their name, but it
doesn't tell me anything when I answer a call.

Hi there. That is the call monitoring feature. It is enabled by default,
but depending on your situation some people turn it off. For example, the
Google voice number that I use as a home phone has that feature turned
off. This way when people call the house, the phones ringing like normal
and people answer like normal. When this feature is enabled, people who
are not in your Google contact list will be prompted to speak their name.
When your phone rings, you will then be given the chance to take the call
by pressing one, or sending the call to Boyceville by pressing too. Some
people find this okay while others do not like it.

Do you have it to where when you answer a call it will tell you who is
calling and then you can hit buttons to either reject call, send the
call to voice mail, answer the call, etc?? I am asking this because
people tell me that they are asked for their name and then it will
attempt to connect them, but when I answer, it never tells me who is
calling. I am guessing I have something configure incorrectly but I
can't figure out what. Any ideas?

Another feature I like about Google voice is that it will perform voice
recognition on any messages left in your voice mail and send you a text
or email with the transcription in it. It isn't perfect, but it's a
quick way to let you know if you need to worry about the message or not.
As others have mentioned, when someone calls my Google Voice number, my
cell phone, land line and office phones will all ring. I can decide
which phone I want to use to take the call.
I don't use these features myself, but you can decide if you'll answer a
call or send it to voice mail. You can even listen to someone leaving
the voice mail and decide to pick it up. You can also pick up the call
on one phone, say your land line phone, and then pick it up on your cell
phone as well, such as if you're going out the door during the call.

Hello there. You will probably get other answers and so far I have read
two other messages on this. It is not exactly a VoIP number, instead it
is a virtual number. This means that for the most part if you have it
forwarding to your cell phone number, when you make and receive calls
to or from your Google voice number it will still use your cell phone
minutes. You can of course use apps like talkatone to make data voice
calls. One advantage of Google voice is that if you use it to text
message, the messages are On the Google voice website and are virtually
stored forever. Or at least as long as you want them to. In any case, a
lot longer and easier to manage than the messages app on the phone.
Another advantage is that if you get an incoming call through your
Google voice number, you can record the phone call. This will play a
message that all parties will here so they know they are being
recorded. This comes in handy and of course you can later retrieve it
from the Google voice web
site. There are many more advantages and I could go on forever and ever
since I am a huge fan of Google voice. However I will mention one last
advantage and say no more unless others are interested. I have an
ObiTalk Phone bridge adapter. With this adapter I can make it so it uses
Google voice as it's line. That means that my home phone is actually a
Google voice number and I don't have to pay for home phone service. As
long as I have this adapter connected to the Internet and configured,
then I get free phone service.
