Hi List,

I mentioned another choice of a bluetooth/wireless speaker in one of my
messages regarding the Beatbox. This speaker is from a company called
Outdoor Technology and it is called "Turtle Shell".

The Beatbox has an attractive price, but the reason why I probably won't buy
it is the fact that it is not also a speakerphone. I like the fact that with
my Jambox I can have my iPhone charging, be elsewhere in the house yet still
take a phone call and I could do this with the Turtle Shell. What I don't
like about the Jambox is the fact that I don't have any Playback controls
like Play/Pause or Previous/Next. I know the Big Jambox has that and one way
to at least stop playback is to just turn off the Jambox which works in a
pinch, but it's definitely a shortcoming.

Anyhow, I think the Turtle Shell is superior to the Jambox in that it looks
much cooler, it has more features and even at the $150 price directly from
the Outdoor Technology website it's $50 cheaper than the Jambox.

It has playback controls, speakerphone, you can drop it and even get it wet
as it has an IPX6 waterproof/dustproof rating.

The IPX6 definition is as follows:

Water: Powerful water jets

Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm nozzle) against the enclosure from
any direction shall have no harmful effects.

Test duration: at least 3 minutes.

Water volume: 100 litres per minute

Pressure: 100 kPa at distance of 3 metres.

Dust: Dust tight

No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact.

I'll post a review on the list once I get a Turtle Shell. I only heard it at
a trade show with lots of background noise, but it sounded at least as good
and maybe better than the original Jambox. My retail store specializes on
outdoor/camping and hunting gear and I will bring in a few of these so
anybody who is interested can drop me a line. I am not sure how it would
work to ship to the States, but definitely if you are in Canada I am willing
to do a special price, what exactly it would be depends on my final cost,
but I assume it could be around $110 to $120 Canadian + shipping.

The Turtle Shell, by the way, comes in Black, White, Red, Blue, Neon Green,
Neon Pink and Seafoam Green.

The Turtle Shell also has a threaded hole which can accept a standard camera
tripod mount and Outdoor Technology has an accessory called the "Turtle
Claw" which allows you to mount the Turtle Shell speaker on any round tube
of up to 1.5 inches in diameter. Examples would be a bike handle, a camp or
beach chair etc.

I have been using the Outdoor Technology "OT Slim" stereo Bluetooth headset
which is a standard over-the-head design. It has rather large foam earpieces
which sit quite comfortably over your ears and in my opinion it sounds
relatively good even for the occasional music, definitely awesome for books
and so on. It works great with my 4S and it's quite a stirdy headset, not
the lightest, but I like it.

If anybody wants to check out Outdoor Technology, you can go to the
following website:

http://www.OutdoorTechnology.com

Following is the Turtle Shell description from the website:

Outdoor Tech's Turtle Shell is pure RAD. Bad ass rugged, shock proof, water
resistant speaker with slamming bass and tight sound all packed into this
designer looking Turtle inspired case. It connects wirelessly via BluetoothR
to nearly any mobile device, has 10+ hours of full blast play time and a
built in Mic so you can prank call your buddies in between tracks.

The Turtle is built for action, and is the first and only bluetooth speaker
to feature a standard camera threading so you can mount it to any tripod,
like the Jobi Gorilla Pod, or camera mount on the market. The Turtle Claw by
Outdoor Tech is a must have accessory if you want to mount this awesome
bundle of sound to your bike, boat, golf cart, shopping cart, baby stroller
or whatever the hell you want to mount it to.

The hollow base port allows the Turtle to THUMP in a way you would never
expect from such a small package, that combined with the ultra-high end
components that Outdoor Tech used to build the Shell makes it the premier
portable wireless bluetooth speaker on the market. If you are into good
listening and an active lifestyle and don't want to be afraid to drop your
gear but at the same time want something that accessories your coolest dude
on the block persona, you probably want the Turtle Shell by Outdoor Tech.

Outdoor Tech is a design lab based in Los Angeles and is focused on bringing
you stuff you probably want, from wireless audio, to the YowieR line of face
protection, Outdoor TechR has you covered in awesomeness.

Constantly developing the cutting edge in lifestyle outdoor accessories, the
Turtle Shell wireless bluetooth boombox is the signature of the OT line and
design atheistic. If you don't believe me, check for yourself, the reviews
and popularity from Kickstarter have been overwhelming; consider yourself
lucky if you can get your hands on one of these, they are in high demand.

Regards,

Sieghard
