Hi Jordan, I am from Canada, but I can answer some of your questions:
is there a way to activate VO out of the box at all? Richard already answered this one, a triple press of the home key should do it, but I think you have to do that right away after you power on the phone. I am hoping verizon performs better/faster. Has anyone seen any glaring differences between at&t and verizon coverage and performance? I am a regular listener to the Today in iOS podcast which has a lot of US listeners who call in and I know Rob asked people to call in after the iPhone 5 came out to report 4G/LTE speeds. Many did so and coverage as well as speed depends entirely on how well your area is covered, both AT&T and Verizon I believe are considered to offer the best coast to coast coverage so if you had poor performance from AT&T then I am sure there are areas where AT&T is awesome and Verizon is sucks. The same will probably apply to speed. One thing to keep in mind, and maybe this is different with an iPhone 5 on LTE, but with a 4S on Verizon which uses CDMA you cannot use data during a phone call. If you are on a phone call and somebody says "Oh, did you get my email", you can open your mail app and see if it is there, but unless you are on WiFi you cannot refresh your messages to see if it is coming in. For many this may not a big deal, but I always thought this was a definite drawback of CDMA networks over GSM networks. My final question deals with battery life. Is battery life comparable between the 4S and the 5? Some people experience poor battery life on the iPhone 5, but this can often be improved by running your battery down completely a couple of time to the point where the phone powers off on its own, then fully recharge. There are also all sorts of battery saving tricks out there which you can find if you goodle for something like "How do I get the most out of my iPhone 5 battery". Once again, I heard people on the Today in iOS Podcast who have issues and many others say it's about the same. I also have heard 4S owners who say their battery only lasts until after lunch, if that happened to me with normal usage and I tried the usual including a factory reset and setting up as a new phone and I still had the problem I'd be at the Apple Store the next day to get a new phone.
