Hi Marco, I don't think it's that scanning with the computer and a flatbed scanner is not "in vogue". The Scanstand is the ultimate portable solution and in connection with an iPhone and an OCR app it allows a user who travels to have the most portable scanning solution there is and still get excellent results.
A Standscan is $30, Prizmo is $10 and I already have my iPhone, so for $40 I now have a scanning solution which is probably as good as the KNFB Reader which was what, about $1,500?
