Oh, but you don't need to use the StandScan to use the OCR. The StandScan just
does everything you need to get the best image for OCR. I have been using
Prizmo to read my mail for the past couple years, and I just ordered a
StandScan yesterday.

Where the KNFB Reader helped was in the blindness specific features to help a
person take a good picture for OCR. These features included a tilt function for
Nokia Phones which supported it (this function used a tone to help you make
sure your Nokia was flat vertically); a feature that would take a picture and
assess it for alignment rather than OCR, and a delay after pressing the take
picture button to wait until after the initial shake caused by pressing the
button. I had a Nokia with KNFB Reader for a previous job before I acquired my
iPhone and Prizmo. In all honesty, I get better OCR from Prizmo than I got from
KNFB. However, KNFB was more forgiving of image taking errors, and it gave
hints as to steps that could be taken to correct the errors. I learned on KNFB,
and transferred my knowledge to Prizmo.
