So do you have any solution for entering the following in an edit field like
in iPhone or iPod touch Search:
*.MP3
I specified in my original post that I did in fact try using Siri. I'm
looking for suggestions on how to have Siri enter unusual single characters
as is right now Siri is spelling out each word used to describe the
character. For example, when wanting to enter *.MP3, Siri spells the
following:
Star dot MP3

I did once use siri to enter a pound sign when I couldn't find it. Tap the
Dictation button, speak the character you want, such as "degree sign," and
double-tap with two fingers to stop the dictation.
