I had already read the user guide before posting. I don't need to correct
Siri. I would actually like dictation or Siri to enter actual characters
rather than typing out the word. In other words, I want to enter * rather
than asterisk. Thanks for the information.

I just finished reading Apple User Guide. To correct seri for future
searches
1 tap the listen button and restate your search quary.
2 in the return search field type in the correct search quary.
I haven't tried this to see if it works for searches in which seri doesn't
understand my search quary request
You can find the Apple User Guide by launching safari. Opening the Bookmarks
tab and swiping through your bookmarks until you find it
The guide has a lot of useful info and is very easy to navigate.
Hope this helps.

Hi Donna,
I'm sure that if you read the edit field character by character you will
find that the asterisk has been spelled letter by letter rather than the
single symbol being entered. There might also be a space between the
period and the letters MP3 rather than the entire string of characters
having been entered as one would like when running this type of search.

Try saying astrix, instead of star. This just worked for me. I have an
iPhone 5. Don't kmow if this would make a difference.

So do you have any solution for entering the following in an edit field
like in iPhone or iPod touch Search:
*.MP3
I specified in my original post that I did in fact try using Siri. I'm
looking for suggestions on how to have Siri enter unusual single
characters as is right now Siri is spelling out each word used to
describe the character. For example, when wanting to enter *.MP3, Siri
spells the following:
Star dot MP3

Hi,
I did once use siri to enter a pound sign when I couldn't find it. Tap
the Dictation button, speak the character you want, such as "degree
sign," and double-tap with two fingers to stop the dictation.
Best,
Anna

Hi All,
How does one quickly enter unusual symbols such as asterist (*),
brackets, degrees symbols, etc? I know how to enter manually using the
touch pad, but this involves 3 different layers including More symbols
and then shift with more symbols. I'm actually hoping to use Siri
within Search to quickly look for something like the following:
*.MP3
If anyone knows of any tips and tricks to dictating this kind of
search edit field entry I'm all ears. Big thanks.
