Hello all. As has been pointed out by several there is really no right or wrong
answer on what to do about this situation. Usually what I try to do when
talking about an app that I like is giving a brief description of what the app
does. If I can I will also provide the iTunes link to that app. If someone is
reading my message from an iPhone, iPod, or iPad then double tapping the iTunes
link will take them to the app store which shows the app description and the
ability to purchase the app. If they are reading my message from a computer
then double tapping or rather clicking the iTunes link will take them to either
the webpage for the app or will open iTunes on their machine. I do not always
provide a link to the app, if I do not it is because I do not have time or
because I feel the app description I am giving is sufficient enough for someone
to find it themselves from the app store. I do not mind questions asked on list
regarding what an app does or where one can find the app especially if the app
has a common title. What I personally take issue with is when an app has been
discussed at length and then one day later someone who has been on the list for
the length of that discussion writes a message to ask where you can find the
app or what the app is about. There are situations of coarse that maybe the
person has been on list but is receiving digest or no mail at all. And so then
the person would not have read those messages. However there are times when
someone is just flat-out lazy and the app at the time wasn't interesting and
all of a sudden it is yet they still ask what the app is about. It is hard to
make assumptions and to make a right decision on whether the reason someone
asks what the app is about is because of laziness, no confidence, or maybe they
are just new to the list. There are of course other reasons, for example maybe
the person doesn't know how to use Google or how to use the app store to find
it for themselves.

The bottom line and my suggestion to everyone is the following. If you see
messages on this list and they are on-topic, meaning they are questions about
an app or the usage of an app, and you want to reply, then do so. If you feel
the person should look for themselves regarding the description of an app, you
can either reply with the link to the app, or just ignore the message and let
someone else handle it. While this thread is very much on-topic, and it
definitely brings out different people's viewpoints, it is still quite
interesting to see how much time many of us have spent to give our viewpoints
regarding something that some of us could have just hit the delete key on in
the first place.

One last thing before I send this message. This list has archives. If someone
is wanting to know what an app does, searching the archives might also give
links to those threads which have discussed the app in the past. I feel that
the list archives are very much underutilized. However this also goes full
circle on wondering if the person asking the question either doesn't know the
list has archives, or doesn't feel comfortable in searching list archives.
Hence the reason for asking on this list. All I am trying to say is that as
long as the topic is with in the list rules, then the person writing a message
should feel okay in asking the list of question or offering opinions about a
given topic.

Thanks much.
