Might as well jump into the fray. I have gone into the archives on a number of occasions and onto applevis also and found my answer. However, take a for instance. Yesterday I asked about how tO put an address into Safari since I had no computer to do it. I could not have looked anything up. I do not know how to do it. Now that I have my computer fixed (simple fix for eyes but not fOr me) I can look for myself or perhaps someone taught me further down in mail. I can understand some might ask just because it is easier, but there is always the possibility they just cannot as they may be brand new to the phone or as happened to me. I have also had the experience where there was a lot of stuff about an app or how to do a certain thing, but not exactly what I want to know. Also, not all on the list are at the same level of knowledge with internet or computers to find what they need. I believe no matter how many times a question is asked, there is a reason for it, and we are here to help. If it is a question already asked a while ago, it could be a newbie (remember how many questions I had) or the answer just may refresh someone's Memory. Besides, if I don't want to look at a post, subject usually tells what it is about, I delete. Lots of mail is deleted by me just because I'm not interested in a certain subject. Bottom line, delete if doubting you will appreciate the post. )You won't hurt my feelings. I'll never know.) (smiles) Let's help each other as much as we can. Writing off list is always an option so Raul doesn't have so much work to do.
Reggie and Allegra, my little pill On Apr 11, 2013, at 4:51 PM, Grant Hardy <[email protected]> wrote: This echos my own view. I think everyone on the list brings a diverse array of experiences which allows us to collaborate. This would seem to be a primary reason why one would join a list like this. I've both reviewed apps and read reviews of apps from others which have given me a lot of invaluable information that I couldn't have gotten from simply reading the descriptions in the app store (case and point, which apps work the best with VO). I also think we have to remember that our community consists of people with varying levels of technical expertise, many of whom benefit from an extra degree of assistance that others might not need and who may find searching through archives and documentation intimidating. As well, we have many great minds on the list who may be experts at different things. For example, I'm a very casual Twitter user but I know there are some real Twitter experts on list. So if I wanted to know how to tailor my Twitter experience to be absolutely optimal, I'd probably ask on list instead of search through the App Store. I would probably search through the archives first, but I can understand why a user might not if they are fairly new, or if they want to make sure they were getting the most up to date info. I think we have to defer to the guidelines here. Many lists (i.e. for open source projects) expect you to have thoroughly read all documentation, FAQs and help pages in advance of asking questions, but as this isn't the case here on the Viphone list, I think we should help where we can and simply pass on if we don't feel that we can offer any assistance. I can honestly say from my experience as a forum and mailing list user since I was in my teens, that "just Google it" responses are the most likely messages that can quickly degenerate into argument. In fact I think it's very cool that this isn't the case here. This is an awesome list! Cheers, Grant On 4/11/13, Maria & Joe Chapman <[email protected]> wrote: > HI.
