When done properly moving files between pages or in and out of folders only takes about 3 seconds and is very easy. No computer is needed at all and would probably make things harder. Those of you new to IOS please keep in mind when someone posts their difficulties it is "their" difficulties and not necessarily problems you will encounter. I'm mentioning this because its usually the one's who have problems that are the most vocal, which gives newbie's a sense of a task being difficult since those who can complete X task obviously don't have complaints. I can't tell you how much time I've "awasted" in having to show others that Windows7 or Win8 features such as start menu are not difficult to learn or use. The problem is that they've read tons of email messages from people who struggle because these people don't read or try to solve problems for more than a couple of minutes. This mindset is then confirmed when a newbie has a problem with w7 as they conclude every post on the matter was correct, but this perceived problem is actually a problem that would happen in any Windows OS. It took me just a couple of days to learn the operating system on my iPod Touch, which is very similar to the iPhone, which means I will make an easy transition to the iPhone when the time comes. I simply read and experimented just like anyone new to any venture. I didn't join this list to bug others because I'm thinking of buying an IOS device but can't make up my mind or am worried about accessibility. There are 1400 people on this list, it is obvious IOS is accessible. I simply received the iPod Touch as a gift and after help with the initial setup and running a Google search for the manual, I was quickly on my way. I of course then found this list and the AppleVis website and learning curve over. Of course I may need help in the future, but I'm pretty confident I can figure out most things if someone else was able to do so too. The apple platform is used by children and by seniors, it is very simple due to it's consistent and predictable structure, and this is the case by intent. I guess my point is that anyone, absolutely anyone can master this thing and quite quickly regardless of level of vision, age, etc.

Glad you don't feel alone. If could have done this using the computer and a
keyboard it probably would have much faster and neater too.

LOL! Rose, that's exactly what I did too! It sounded pretty straight
forward and simple. Then I got into trouble and compounded things until
everything was screwed up big time so I reset it like you did but golly it's
nice to know I wasn't alone.

12 on the iPhone 4S and I was just thinking, someone should create an
app to make moving apps easier. I spent 3 hours one night trying to
put just a few apps in folders, then had more screens with stuff
scattered all over the place. I finally gave up, went to setting and
had it put them all back in alphabetical order, pushed newsstand to
page 6 where I don't usually have any apps, moved my Fahrenheit back
to my home screen and stopped messing right there, oh, yes, I did put
the stocks app in the utilities folder also.
Then I can tell Siri to open an app and I don't have to go through 4
and a half pages to find it, or if I want to drive my husband crazy, I
start on page one flick through each then to page two and so on.
Worked better than an alarm did at waking him up one afternoon. He
just had to know what that flicking noise was since generally I seldom
employ that method of exploring a screen just use a finger and more
often than not in many cases tap the app I want without having to
hunt for it. I don't usually need to hear all
12 apps on my home screen to know that the temperature is going to be
in the right hand corner just above the dock,. I was actually
thinking of moving mail out of the dock since I don't use my phone for
mail and putting the temperature in in the dock since it is something
I want to know when I am leaving for work or leaving work especially
in the last few winter months.

So how many apps can you put in a folder on the iPhone 4S is there an
application that I could download that would allow for me to have more
apps in a folder for the iPhone 4S

I mispoke. IOS 6 allows for 16 apps per folder on the iPhone 5.

Subject: RE: Moving apps into folders?

Hi jordan,

The folders are exactly aligned in the rows and columns. I find it
much easier to move a folder next to an app I want to put in it then
the other way around. If you move an app and you accidently let go in
the wrong spot you may put it into another folder or create a new one.
If you move a folder you can really go with the little beeps as to
how many spots you moved it left, right, up or down. Hence if I have
an app in the very right place in row 4 and I want to move that into
a folder that sits in row 2 and column 2 (second from the left edge)
then I move the folder into row 4 column 4 which means into the
position the app is in, this will push the app into column 3 on row 4
which means it will be just to the left of the folder. I would simply
double tap and hold the folder, then drag it straight right 2 beeps
which means it's now in column 4 on row 2, then I drag it straight
down 2 beeps. Now I look for the app to the left of the folder, I
double tap and hold on it and drag it to the right just a bit until
it
says it's on the folder, then let go. Now I can drag the folder back
to where I want it.

This primarily is only a matter of practice and as long as you have
good special awareness and are able to drag your finger straight
across a row or straight up or down you'll get better at it. What
will make it more unpredictable is if you have problems with the
directions, e.g. you think you are dragging your finger straight
across row 2, for example, but in fact you are dragging it across and
down
or across and up.

Sieghard

A folder will hold twelve apps. Also, sometimes VO will simply tell
you which row and column you're on, so be sure to note where the
folder's coordinates are. VO will sound a series of tones when you're
sitting on a folder. You can pause there until the folder opens.

I explore the screen a bit before moving apps around and moving them

folders, but it sounds like you're already doing that. Sometimes
moving an app over next to a folder as an intermediate step helps.
Also, folders only hold a certain amount of apps and once a folder is
full, you can't move an app into it. You don't get a message to that
fact;
the move just won't take.

First, I must thank the many people who responded to my earlier
questions! I download MiniKeePass, and find it useful! I do have
one question about placing apps in folders. I do understand the
concept of how to move apps, and how to move apps into folders!
But, is there some trick to getting an app into a folder? I face
the most difficulty when the folder sits on row 2, column 4, and
the app simply refuses to land on the folder. Does the folder sit
slightly up/down/left/right of the direct row/column? I'm sort of
confused as to where folders sit in relation to the screen. The
movements are so very slight...please help?
