Hi, In iTunes, press Command-Comman on a Mac or Control-Comma in Windows to open PReferences. Switch to the Advanced tab in this multi-page dialog box . Tab to the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" check box, and check it. Then press Enter. Delete the files you previously imported from your library. This will not delete the actual files, but it will keep you from having duplicates. Then import the files using the same procedure you used before. Now they'll be copied to your iTunes folder.
