Neal: Yes, I'm afraid that you're dreaming here. About the best mic I've found for use with the iDevices is the iRig mic which can be found online as well as at some local Walmart stores. This mic runs anywhere from 50-65 dollars depending on from where you purchase. This is a mic which pluggs directly in to the input jack on the devices. I use this mic for conducting onsite interviews. This mic has 3 different settings which will allow you to get pretty good sound. This mic also has an audio jack which allows you to plug in headphones to monitor your audio coming from it & the iDevice as well. This mic will work on any of the iDevices & will work with a meriod of different recording apps. Such as Bossjock, FiRe 2, the built in memo app, list recorder, etc. Note, this mic comes with a recording app which is worthless imo. I've also purchased a pop fillter for this mic. The mic can be used without the pop fillter, however, I've found that it works much better with one. I've also used an old sock, yes, washed of course... to accomplish the same task at times as well. Past that, If you've an iPad you can buy the Camera kit & run a USB mic using it. I use the Camera kit & run the Audio Technica ATR-2100 mic which is a USB/XLR combo Cardioid Dynamic mic. The audio on this mic is great using it both as a USB mic as well as an XLR mic. If you'd like some audio of this mic in action. I'll be glad to send you some. I've been told that the camera kit will work on iPhone 5's to acomplish the same task however, since I do not currently have a 5, I can't speak on this. You could also buy a XLR adaptor from VeriCorder which will allow you to plug an XLR mic in to an iDevice, these adaptors get rather expensive very quickly & I've never tried this option. However, I have a friend who is a reporter in DC who uses his iPhone & iPad exscusively to news gather & report who does use this setup some. He tells me that he doesn't like it as much as just using the built in mic on the iDevices as there gets a bunch of digital noise in the audio after it is sent through the stations processing equitment. Any further, probably be a good idea to contact me directly off list as I'm sure this has gone way past the scope of this list at this point. Hi, another option I might have if I could find the right adapter is that I have a number of over the ear microphones that work with cordless phones and also work on my computer and other recorders. Unfortunately, Apple's wisdom suggested to them that they reverse the wires to their microphone connection, so none of these work with the iPhone. I have not yet found any kind of adapter to make these work, but I am guessing there is something out there. Anyone? Neal From: Neal Ewers [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2013 11:20 AM To: '[email protected]' Subject: External microphone needed for iPhone 5 Hi all. I am looking for a microphone for my iPhone 5 that has the following properties. I'm not sure I will find it, but I am not happy with any of the ones I have. I would like one that does not do noise canceling. I have found that most of these do very strange things to the sound given the particular noise that is in the background. I would like it to have a boom that comes out close to my mouth. I think that may be the killer and there may be none I can find like that. I have found that the ear pods and others that have the microphone hanging off of the wire sound way too far away. I would like it to be wired, either one ear or two doesn't matter. I have one of the best Bluetooth microphones of the lot, the Plantronics m50, and, let's just say, I have heard way better. It does not need to be stereo. Mono would be preferred. Am I dreaming? I think so, but perhaps someone on this list might come up with something. Thanks much for reading and considering my question. Neal No virus found in this message.
