Hi Sandy,

If you have Albums selected and go into a particular album, for example,
let's say I double tap on Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits, there is a
Shuffle button right at the top above the listing of songs. If you double
tap on that, the songs in that album will play randomly. The same goes for
Playlists, Artists, Songs or any other view, there is always a Shuffle
button at the top of the list and it will play a random selection but it
will not stay switched on permanently.

Now, if you are playing a song and double tap on the Album Art button it
reveals a "Repeat All" button and a "Shuffle" button. If you double tap on
that Shuffle button, it will say "Selected" and it will stay selected until
you double tap it again and turn it off. As long as it is selected, your
music will shuffle no matter what you play.

You can always use the Shuffle button at the top of an album, playlist or if
you select artist and "All Songs" then you also have it there. This will
shuffle, but if you Pause and select another album and double tap the first
song instead of Shuffle it will then play the songs in order starting with
the first one.

If things seem to be mixed up again, just start playing a song and make sure
the Shuffle button one swipe to the right of Repeat All doesn't say
Selected.

Regards,

Sieghard

Subject: More than one shuffle button on the phone?

I recently complained on this list that my husband's iPod was not playing
albums in order. Eventually my iPhone wasn't either. I called Apple Care
about this and although the problem has been fixed I am still baffled by the
man's explanation.

According to the rep there is not one, but two shuffle buttons on the phone.
He described the one he wanted me to change as a crisscross f arrows that
changes colors when it is tapped. Fortunately, my sighted husband was here
and he found it and tapped it until it was the requisite white, which means
off. Orange means shuffle. The weird part is, not only was the music on my
phone instantly straighten out, but so was the music on his iPod. It is as
if there are two buttons: the one you tap just to shuffle an album or play
list and this master switch that shuffle the entire world. Does anybody
understand what I am talking about? Now I am afraid to shuffle a play list
for fear I'll inadvertently trip this master switch again.
