latest software update ios 6.1

Hi I have read on another site that the latest update to the operating 
system has given some faults.  People are saying that speach is lost and so 
the phone becomes unusable.  Has anyone come across this problem?  Is there 
anyway of returning to say ios 5 or whatever before 6.1 became available.
