Hi, I usually just hold the phone fairly close to my face but slightly off center so that it's near one of my ears; that way I can here voiceover just about well enough to type without it looking overly unnormal. Alternately, if I just want to read a notification or a text, I just turn the volume up slightly and don't even bother taking it out of my pocket.
