Because no app so far offers anything greater than 3x playback speed and
when I wrote the Downcast dev about offering faster rates of speed, he wrote
back explaining while it was something he'd like to consider, the 3x
playback rate is a limit on Apple's part. That if they removed this
limitation, then he would consider including faster playback in future
updates. Also, when I wrote Apple along the same lines, They gave me the
boiler plate answer of thanking me for my input and that my inquiry would be
forwarded to the proper department, etc...
Now, if the NLS app will in fact be able to play their files at a faster
rate of speed than what any other app can currently do, I'd be all over that
like white on rice and upgrade to a larger capacity phone like nobody's
business when my upgrade comes around in a couple of months.

Hi,

How would you know since there is no NLS app yet? Comparing the machine to
other apps is like comparing Apples to oranges in my opinion. Wouldn't you
need to actually compare the machines performance to that of its
corresponding app?

the talking book machine supplied by NLS that is comforting. I like the
physical buttons and the sturdy feel of the machine. Perhaps it is just a
throwback to when I first started using talking books on cassette... Which
was a big deal back then.
