Hi, Connie.
I've been using an iPhone 5 with an Otterbox defender and I'm constantly
accessing the headphone jack to either plug in external speakers or
headphones. So far I haven't had an issue with the case except for the flap
over the headphone port not closing unless I give it a good push. But this
is also true for the lightening cable port. I've had the phone and the case
for just over four months with pretty much daily use. I've also had no
problem with the phone switching from the ear piece to speaker when I move
it away or toward me or using either camera for that matter. The Otterbox
is a tad expensive and not the most stylish, but for someone on the go or
accident prone, it's a good insurance.
I'm using the advanced screen protector from speed dots, and it goes on top
of the screen protector built into the Otterbox case. I haven't had
difficulty with gestures that I can directly attribute to the case or the
protector. I'm just the kind of person who doesn't get some of the multi
finger gestures right away.

Subject: RE: Cases for iPhone 5
Hi Alan,
I do want a case that provides good protection but I do also want a screen
protector. I also want easy access to headphone jack and other controls.
I have an Otterbox Defender case for my iPod Touch and like it a lot but
the reviews say there is a problem withthe ear bud jack in the iphone 5
series.
I don't plan to use a dock at this point so probably will leave the case
on once it is on the phone.
Also do not want to hinder the proximity sensor.
I don't want much, do I? Anyway, any feedback would be much appreciated.

Connie, you don't say what the primary features are that you require in a
case. I chose the TECH 21 D30 Impact Shell Snap On Skin Case Cover for
Apple
iPhone 5 - Clear based on a recommendation from someone else on this list
back in January. My main requirement was a case that would give good
protection without adding bulk. The Tech21 does that but you should also
get
a film screen cover to place over the screen since the case does not
provide
screen protection. The case does come with a high tech material called D30
which remains pliable until absorbing an impact at which time it stiffens
to
provide the needed protection. Also, the lip on the case is raised enough
so
that if you dropped it flat with the screen down, the edge of the case
instead of the screen will absorb the impact.
Amazon sells this case for $39.99 with free shipping and you can read
about
it at this link:

F8&psc=1
When I was at the Apple Store on another matter, the person helping me
said
the Tech21 was one of their highest recommendations.
Good luck with your selection.
