I had the same problem, had to jail break the Apple tv to get it to see and use the nas. -Steve

It's possible that enabling the iTunes server on your NAS might work but it did not work for me. I also have a NAS, a DLink 321 which also claims to be able to show as an iTunes server but I've had no luck with this at all.
