Craig, yes this is the standard battery. It seems the issue I described is
getting worse but is sometimes more noticeable than others.

Paul, my iPhone 5 will say "100% charging" for a few minutes but will
then say "on AC power." I have neverchecked to find out how long it
takes to say "on AC power." No matter how discharged your battery is,
I'd say four to five hours of charging ought to do it. I don't know
if there are hard figures on charging times. Is this battery the
standard one that comes with the iPhone?
