Thanks, Raul. This definitely makes sense to me.

In the last few minutes, I have practiced holding down the space bar while 
pressing H two times quickly. This seems to register as a command for the app 
switcher more often than not.

I'd forgotten about the search command from the home screen. This does explain 
why I end up in search sometimes.
