Hi Andrew and Chuck, First, I don't know if there is a way to review what you selectet. However, I can easily select characters, words or lines whichever unit I set, and when I get to the edge of the screen, I just put both fingers on the screen again close together and repeat the pinch out gesture. This does seem to work well for me and I have often done this 3 or 4 times rather quickly with good success.

If you stop the pinch, you cannot add more to the select. What I like to do is start with my two fingers at the upper left corner of the iPhone's screen. That way I can move diagonally across the screen to give me the most real estate to work with.
