Yes, when somebody refers to a "triple click of the home key" this means to physically press the round home button in the middle at the bottom 3 times quickly. There is also a double press which brings up what Voiceover calls the "App Switcher". This is a listing of all your apps that you have used. iO/S is quite efficient in shutting down apps that are not being used, but they do stay open or listed in the app switcher. When you press the home key twice quickly the app switcher comes up and it displays 4 apps along the bottom of the phone where you normally see your docked icons. You can remove apps from this app switcher and it is actually a good idea occasionally to do this and to clear it out. To do this, double tap and hold on any app in the app switcher. After a very brief delay you hear a triple tone and Voiceover will say "Editing" followed by the app name. For example, I have the Settings app open and when I double tap and hold on Settings, Voiceover says "Editing Settings". I then lift the finger and double tap anywhere on the screen and since Settings still has focus, it will be removed and the next app to the right will move over and gain focus. You can double tap again to remove it, the double tap and hold to enter editing mode is only required the first time and it then stays active until all apps are removed or until you press the home key once or until you double tap on "Dismiss App Switcher".
Now, briefly back to the triple click home. This will unload Voiceover, but you have to make sure that this behavior is set up under Settings, General, Accessibility. At the very botton you find first a heading that Voiceover reads as "Triple Click, heading", swipe to the right once and you hear Voiceover say "Triple Click Home, Voiceover button". You can double tap on this and select other options, you have the following choices: Voiceover Invert Colors Zoom Assistive Touch Voiceover should say "selected" and you can double tap on other options and have multiple items selected, in that case if you triple click the home button you would be prompted which option you wanted, e.g. if you have Voiceover and Inverted Touch selected, you would be able to choose between the 2. Unless you still have useable vision having just Voiceover selected is best because it allows you to easily unload Voiceover should you want somebody else to use your phone or if you play a game like Audio Archery which requires you to unload Voiceover and you can just as easily start it up again with another triple click of the home key.
