For best battery care with an LI battery, you want to use shallow
charges whenever convenient, so charge the phone whenever you can.
Keeping your battery charged between 40% and 80% would be ideal. That
being said, you aren't doing any permanent damage by letting the charge
go down all the way. The phone will shut off automatically when the
charge gets too low, so keep that in mind if you're in the middle of
something. The battery also will shut off before the charge gets to
absolute zero, so you don't need to worry about damaging the battery.
The battery will continue to discharge just sitting on the shelf, so
make sure it's got a good charge before leaving it unused for a while.
