Hi Ed,

If your iPhone is a CDMA phone which I assume it is since you are with
Verizon then I guess what Verizon tells you is the law. If your iPhone was a
GSM iPhone for AT&T, T-Mobile etc. and if it was unlocked you could go to
any GSM carrier and get a SIM card even a prepaid SIM if you wanted. It is
quite possible that Verizon forces you into a data plan.

Keep in mind that having an iPhone without data plan is sort of like owning
an airplane and driving it around on the road instead of flying it.

Regards,

Sieghard

Subject: using iphone without a data plan

Hello list,

I have spoken to three Verizon stores regarding having a n iphone connected
with just a phone and not the data. All three places informed me I could
not have the iphone connected without having a data plan. This is an Iphone
I will own without any plan or contract. Can anyone advise me if this is
true or not. I did also asked at one Verizon place if I have my own iphone
that is unlocked can I just have the phone service. I was told I could not
have the phone service without the data plan. I already have phone service
with Verizon. I did see earlier on this list that someone stated that you
could just have the phone service. Any assistance on this matter would be
greatly appreciated.

Ed
