Hi Hope, You can try using your iDevice's alarm to set the timers. I do this when cooking and or any other household chores such as washing etc.
Begin boiling eggs and such then launch Siri and say the following: Set alarm for 20 minutes." You will get a confirmation that the alarm has been set, and at this point press the Home key to be placed on your home screen. After 20 minutes the alarm will go off, so you will have to swipe to "ok" and double-tap. I use the alarm because it will nag incessantly or until you press ok the alarm. I've had as many as 12? or so alarms going at once. When I need to leave my house and do some running around, I set the morning alarm to make sure I start getting ready, and throughout the day I set reminders. I do it this way because reminders will shut off automatically, so they are a good way of insuring I'm on schedule without having to pull out my iPod and turn the alarm off. I also set my reminders for 10 minutes before I need to move on to the next task, so I have plenty of time to wrap up what I'm doing before moving on to the next thing on my list.
