You're both right, as is Sieghard, so let's just all agree that I'm wrong and move on. Sorry I brought it up. I don't want it to take up any more list space.

It isn't true though that if you don't have Windows support you can't fill up a 64G iPhone. You could do this easily with a Mac.

I really doubt that Apple would drop Windows support. They only
provide a few gigs of space in the cloud. So if they don't have
Windows support their is not a way to fill a 64GB IPhone/IPad if one
is downloading their own material on to the device.

I think if they ever did that, I might drop the iPhone altogether. Apple are
big on themselves, but I really don't think they'll drop iTunes support,

really stupid move, though.

Thanks,

I understand. I have a vested interest in this whole cloud thing, so I was
real interested to hear that Apple might have published a principle
embracing cloud support in everything they do.

I agree that Apple won't be dropping Windows support any time soon, but as
you've said, fewer and fewer people are using their iDevices with their
computers, so I really doubt they'd lose 80% of their market if they were
to drop Windows support. I've said before, more and more people will be
making their home computer / laptop decisions based on how they fit into
the rest of their lives. They won't be buying devices to work with their
computers as much but rather buying computers that work with all of their
devices. I can certainly see Apple, and I'd be surprised if they aren't
preparing for it now, dropping Windows support and marketing Macs as the
machine to get if you want it to work with your Apple TV's, iDevices and
so on.

Hi Chris,

Principle is maybe not quite the right word, but Apple certainly
emphasizes
the fact that you never have to connect your iDevice to a computer (Mac
or
PC) if you don't want because there are some customers who just want a
device for email, web browsing etc. who can happily use an iPad or
iPhone
without the need for a computer.

However, as long as Apple supports iTunes support for Windows will not
drop.
Mac's may have gained market share and I don't know the exact numbers,
but
there are still 8 or 9 PC's sold for every Mac and Apple is not cutting
out
80% or more of their market by dropping iTunes for Windows support.

Sieghard

I'm curious. Where did you hear that Apple had such a principle? I
always
figured Apple was just implementing features leveraging the cloud for
the
convenience of sharing content across multiple devices and avoiding the
inconvenience of having to connect your device to a computer. I also
figured
it was part of their long term plan to drop iTunes support for Windows
and
not adversely impact their device sales.
I'd be interested though in knowing more about this Apple principle
though
and how they documented it and rolled it out.
