Hi Penny and Jane, Jane, there is no need whatsoever to restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod ?Touch after upgrading to iOS 7. Yes, doing a backup is a good idea, but then once you do the upgrade whether you do it via iTunes by clicking "Check for updates" in the Summary tab or whether you do the upgrade over the air on your device nothing should be lost which requires a restore. The only thing you may notice is because of the extra Facetime app which probably is put on your first home screen that if your home screen was full before one app might have been moved to the second home page. Anyhow, here is what you should do:
1. Connect your device to the computer and do a backup in iTunes or, if you don't want to use iTunes, back up to iCloud. 2. When the backup is done, double press the home key to bring up the app switcher, close out all apps. 3. Hold the home key until you get the message to turn off your device, then slide or double tap to do so. 4. Wait a bit and turn it back on to perform a complete reboot. 5. Do your update. Closing all apps and doing a reboot is maybe not strictly necessary, but I have never had a problem with an update by doing this and it definitely won't hurt to do that. Hit Back up this iPad. After that's done, tell it to update. When that is done, tell it to restore from backup.
