Funny thing- iTunes thinks this is the same computer- even with new HD, mother board, and windows re-installed. So-- now I really can't figure out why it previously counted re-installing XP on the same computer against my 5 computer limit. Cher Crossing fingers then- this hard drive failure has possibly pushed me to the 5 computer limit. There must be some way to reset the count-- I hope ;) Cher

Hi, It uses your Apple id and you can authorize a maximum of 5 computers. Unfortunately the authorization doesn't appear to be based on hardware at all; if I reinstall Windows without making any hardware changes it still counts as a new computer, which is a real pain if you're the sort of person who has lots of computers and likes to use different operating systems.
